When the police arrived at 102 Sitwell Road, Derek was waiting for them in the front window, they came round through the back door to find him giving Janet mouth to mouth. She was already dead having suffering 19 very severe stab wounds to the chest, neck and face. Derek was arrested and charged with her murder.
